Black Flight
Black Flight is changing the way our cities look!
This has serious implications for those of us with Here’s Life Inner City, or for that matter, any inner city organization. I would hope that we take notice, because not only will it affect who we do ministry with, but also where we do it. If we stay in the cities, then we will be working with a largely upper middle class white post-modern. If we wish to remain working with the poor, we might find ourselves in the suburbs.
Another interesting speculation is that with some western rural towns having an unemplyment rate close to 2% there might be a slow, but steady shift away from poverty caused by unemployment. What then?

Hmmm…interesting. What did you read about why this is happening? Are blacks leaving for the same reasons whites left at one time? And why are whites coming back? I guess it’s the cool thing to do to live downtown now, get yourself a nice loft or condo. Any speculations on how long this will take to happen to Milwaukee? Does this mean the condos will eventually spread to the west of the river? Lots of questions!

The article says that largely educated blacks want out and want real estate. I don’t blame them. So they go to a nearby suburb where they hope to get better prices. I think 20 year and Milwaukee will be significantly more downtown than central city. Especially is recent trends continue, such as the high school graduation growing from 45% to 63%. This is a huge shift.
