New Life

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

What a roller coaster of a summer!  Rachel and I moved here to scenic South Hamilton, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston to go to seminary.  Things are finally settling down, but I’m realizing our webpage has suffered some terrible neglect.

With that, a basic update seems in order.  Rachel is currently working two jobs until the fall when she will quit her part time one.  She is working full time at TechMission, an organization that strives to bring technology into inner city ministries.  Her part time job is as a tutor at a Sylvan Learning center.

I am currently in my second Greek class,…

Some thoughts on The Golden Compass

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

I’ve been looking forward to the debut of a movie called The Golden Compass since I saw the previews in August, so last weekend I read the book on which the movie is based. I enjoyed it. Quite a bit. It’s a well-written, highly creative, and engaging story. I could barely put it down. There were some themes that made me mildly uncomfortable, but on the whole, my anticipation of the movie to be released on December 7th only increased. Battle on the Homefront

Over Labor Day Weekend our nerves were worn ragged by the constant conflict between our next door neighbor and her boyfriend. We hid out in our bedroom with the AC on high just to drown out the sounds, but eventually the screaming, cursing, and breaking glass had us calling 911. If they didn’t need relief, we sure did. Honestly, we’d had a couple of our own conflicts over the weekend, and although ours were much quieter and more civilized, the tension from next door just wasn’t helping.

This morning I got an email from an old friend and spiritual mentor describing how she and her…

Cool Somewhere

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Well, I haven’t been exactly faithful at this blog writing thing, but recently I came up with a noteworthy theory; and I thought my blog would be a good place to put it. My theory is that everything is cool somewhere. No, I’m not talking about the weather. Let me try to make sense of my thoughts…

After a recent trip to NC and a short dip into my home culture (with an unusual amount of reverse culture shock, I might add), I started thinking about how easy it is to think one’s own culture is the ONLY culture. Most…

My thoughts

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

I’ve never written a blog before, so I have no idea what I should be writing about. A blog in itself seems like an extremely open-ended question, and I’m not so good with open-ended questions. Give me a specific question, and I’ll give you an answer that’s short and to the point! I have a hard time believing that anyone wants to hear what I have to say when I talk, much less my random ramblings in a sort of online journal. But I have been proven wrong. There is at least one person out there reading, wanting to know…
